Help Restore Michigan History!
Woodlawn Cemetery, the only documented Black cemetery in Washtenaw County needs your help.
Over the past 3 years, volunteers have reclaimed nearly an acre of sacred ground from decades of overgrowth unveiling hundreds of African Americans and black veterans whose lives were central to the development and history of Washtenaw County and the state of Michigan.
Founded in 1946 by Rev. Garther Roberson Sr. due to inadequate burial options for Black individuals, the cemetery is now being revitalized by volunteers and community partners who have cleared much of the overgrowth.
